Barcelona in 7 Days: The Complete Itinerary

A full week to enjoy Barcelona at the right pace — the icons, the neighborhoods, the beach and the best day trips.

A week lets you go beyond the highlights and travel like a local.

A week is the ideal length for travel to Barcelona: enough to cover every icon at a relaxed pace, get under the skin of the neighborhoods, spend time at the beach and still fit in two day trips. This 7-day itinerary builds on our 3-day plan for the first half, then opens up to Montjuïc, the coast and the mountains. As always, the smart trip-planning move is to book the major sights online before you arrive.

Days 1–3 — The essentials

Follow our 3-day Barcelona itinerary: Day 1 for Gaudí (Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera), Day 2 for the Gothic Quarter, La Rambla, El Born and Barceloneta, and Day 3 for Park Güell and Gràcia.

Day 4 — Montjuïc

Dedicate a full day to the hill of Montjuïc: ride the cable car for the views, explore the castle, visit the MNAC (Catalan art) and the Joan Miró Foundation, wander through Poble Espanyol, and end with the Magic Fountain light-and-music show after dark.

With a week, you can slow down and enjoy the details.

Day 5 — Beaches and seafood

Take it slow: a morning at the Barceloneta and Bogatell beaches, a long seafood lunch (paella's local cousin, fideuà, is the move — see our food guide), and an afternoon in the trendy Sant Antoni and Sant Pere neighborhoods. If you prefer more culture, swap in the Museu d'Història de Catalunya or the CCCB.

Day 6 — Day trip to Montserrat

Escape to the Montserrat monastery, an hour from the city by train and cable car, set among dramatic rounded mountains. Hike one of the trails, hear the famous boys' choir (most days at 1:00 pm) and enjoy the panorama over Catalonia.

Day 7 — Day trip to the coast or Girona

For your last day, choose the coast or a medieval town: Sitges for beaches and seaside charm, Girona for its colourful riverfront and Game-of-Thrones streets, or the calas of the Costa Brava. All are easy train or bus rides from Barcelona.

Trip-planning tips: a 7-day visit pays off a multi-day transport pass and pre-booked timed tickets. Base yourself centrally (Eixample or El Born), keep the two day trips for midweek when sights are quieter, and leave buffer time — Barcelona rewards slow wandering.
